Virtual Adoption and Sponsership Program

Sweet was surrendered due to continuous miss treatment. She is permanently housed at the PRC due to her injuries and previous treatment.

The Parrot Rescue Centre is solely run by volunteers and donations, it does not receive any financial assistance from the government. We do not like to turn away any parrot but due to the cost and time involved in building aviaries, providing fresh food and enrichment, the time has come where we can only provide quality care for so many.

Due to the increase of surrendered birds in Australia our resources are stretched to the limit and we need your help in regards to foster carers, donations of food, toys, cages, aviaries or aviary materials.

There is a lot of time, resources, effort and expense taken to manage behaviour problem and permanent sanctuary parrots, therefore only a limited amount are able to come in at one time.

When a bird is surrendered with behaviour problems, they are firstly assessed by a qualified avian vet, then assessed by a behaviour consultant (throughout there rehab) and then monitored by our qualified staff. This process is timely and expensive and due to the PRC relying solely on volunteers and donations, we are only able to take in a limited amount of parrots. There are many birds waiting to come into our care for help, but due to limited recourses we are unable to take them all in at present.
With your help, by sponsoring a parrot, we are then able to provide what is needed to take in more parrots and move parrots through rehab more effectively and efficiently.

Please sponsor one of our lovely rehabilitation or sanctuary parrots, so then we can provide more homes for unwanted, neglected and abused parrots.

Foster Parrots in America who are a rescue organisation also, have created an exiting virtual adoption and sponsorship program in which the Parrot Rescue Centre has adopted with their permission.

 

The Parrot Rescue Centre feel strongly about education, as this is a vital part of our mission. We are reaching out to our community in an effort to inform the future generations of the problems caused by the impulsive purchase of parrots. We hope that by offering a virtual adoption/sponsorship program that many will be able to participate in the care of unwanted, neglected or abused parrots.

Virtual adoptions are available to individuals as well as to groups.
Schools, clubs, sporting groups and individuals may virtually adopt/sponsor a parrot from our current population. We are unable to have large groups come to the PRC, so a group representative and their teacher etc will have to be allocated to come for the visit.

Our aim at the PRC is to do what is in the best interest of the Parrots, so some birds that you may virtually adopt may be re homed during your 12 month adoption, you will be kept well notified of this if it occurs and be notified of their progress. Your donation is still a great benefit to the other parrots that are under rehabilitation that have no support.


The adoption/sponsor term is one year.

Adoption includes:

  • A Certificate of Adoption for your bird or birds.
  • A photograph of your adopted bird/s
  • A biography of your adopted bird/s.
  • E-mail communication concerning your bird's health, diet and life here at The Parrot Rescue Centre.
  • You are welcome to send special bird-safe toys or treats specifically for your bird.
  • You and a friend are welcomed to the sanctuary for a short visit. You will be shown the sanctuary and be able to see some of the parrots in our care, find out about parrot life at the sanctuary, and most  importantly visit your adopted parrot and see first hand the progress we are making because of your help. Due to rehabilitation of birds that have been through extensive ordeals in their previous homes we only now allow one initial visit when you adopt your parrot. For 6 months of the year we are totally closed to visitation. This is done for the best interests of the parrots that are being rehabilitated and need only one on one visitations with their PRC carer. The PRC goes through an extensive rehabilitation process and visitations by strangers can totally bring our carers back to square one, especially when the birds have such a bad history of abuse in the past.
The adoption/sponsor rates are:
  • $450- Large birds such as large Cockatoos (Yellow Sulphur Crested Cockatoos, Long Billed Corellas, Major Mitchell’s)
  • $350 - Medium birds such as small Cockatoos (Galahs, Little Corellas)

You may choose a bird currently featured on our website or Newsletter or you can specify a species and ask us to choose one for you.

To process your Virtual Adoption:
  • For Postal regestration please send a cheque or money order and a brief note indicating your Virtual Adoption Preference or
  • Send us an email and process your adoption via Direct Deposit or Credit Card.
